Hiking

I've had an opportunity to encounter so many angels lately that I've spent very little time preparing for my up coming soul coaching class. This morning the weather was warm for December and I decided to take the dog for a hike in our woods to be alone and think about the class. I can catch the Horseshoe Trail directly behind my house, so I hike often. Since it is still hunting season here I took precautions and hooked Katie, my dog, up to her bright orange vest. I decided that it was too warm for my bright orange hat, though.

Usually, Katie runs far ahead of me and only stops to be sure that she stays within my sight and then continues on, but today something was clearly bothering her. I ignored her as I was lost in thought getting mentally organized for my class.
Her agitation was so great, though, that she strangely didn't leave my side and even bumped into me a few times. Still, I ignored her. I was determined to take this alone time to prepare in my head and nothing was going to stop me. Being in the woods is a great place for me to think.

We walked further on the path with Kate staying plastered to my hip until I came to one of the bridges that crosses a gurgling stream. I like to sit on this bridge and listen to the water. Today though, as we walked closer to the bridge, Katie ran just a short distance ahead of me, turned and came barreling back aiming directly for me at full speed! She is a Newfoundland and weighs about 125 pounds. I swerved as she neared me and still I nearly fell as she clipped my hip.

I was angry. "What is wrong with you?" I shouted and continued forward toward the bridge. I tried to sit down, but she was all over me. I was pushing her away when I heard a distinct voice say, "Go back." It startled me and I stood still for a minute on the bridge. I didn't see any angels around, but I knew this was a spiritual voice and clearly I was supposed to be doing what Katie had been trying to get me to do. So I listened.

We were halfway back home when I heard gun shots dangerously close to us. Usually the hunters stay further on the state game lands, but sometimes they disregard the signs and this is why I put a vest on Katie and usually a hat on myself. With no hat, I was not visible to the hunters. Katie knew it and clearly Spirit did as well. We arrived home safely and I'm glad that I listened. I'll have to take that quiet time some other time to get ready for my class!
