A Word from Webster

I was curious what the dictionary had to say about a few words. Here's what I found:

Clairvoyance: "1. The hypothesized ability to perceive things that are not in sight or that cannot be seen. 2. Keen perception or insight."
Clairvoyant: "1. of clairvoyance 2. apparently having clairvoyance (isn't annoying how the dictionary repeats itself?) 3. having great insight; keen perspective"

Psychic: "1. of having to do with the psyche, or mind 2. beyond natural or known physical processes 3. apparently sensitive to forces beyond the physical world"

While I was there I also found:

Psyche: "1. the human soul 2. the intellect 3. the mind considered as a subjectively perceived, functional entity, based ultimately upon physical processes but with complex processes of its own: it governs the total organism and its interactions with the environment"

I thought this last one was particularly contradictory. I believe that the soul and the intellect are two different things. Completely! Huh.

Oh, and I think Webster was definitely a skeptic.
