There are several good books available about animal spirit guides, but the one that I like best is by Steven D. Farmer. It is simply called "Animal Spirit Guides" and it gives a description and meaning for each type of animal spirit guide. Of course, I really believe that the meaning of any type of spirit that you encounter will have individual, personal and different meanings, but a book like this helps to give a guide of what other people have experienced in terms of these animal spirits. 

My communication with angels has been fluid and clear, so whenever I am not sure of a meaning I can usually ask them, but being a novice in the spirit realm I find that I need a little help with some of the other spirits. I am a HUGE animal lover and have always felt that if I were ever going to see spirits it would be animals. I never dreamed that it would be angels first!

Anyway, I've looked up the meaning for Lion and for Otter and I think in each case the spirit of the deceased loved one was using the images of these animals to further communicate something to their living relative. In other words, the vision of the animal spirit is something that I can understand and therefore I'm better able to give a clear message to the person that I'm working with.

I actually like seeing an animal spirit and now that I know it has greater meaning for the person that has requested a reading, I think I'm going to focus on this more. What I mean is that when I contact the spirit of the deceased loved one, I will ask that spirit to bring along an animal spirit that represents the message that they would like to convey to the person that has requested the reading.
